Background
Replacement of 29 400W Highbay fittings with 29 ROBUS HAT 200W Induction High Bay Fittings

Wesley Linen Services installed 29 ROBUS 200 Watt high bay induction lamps in their factory located at Darra, Queensland.

The decision to purchase induction lighting followed testing of LED, metal halide and induction trial units in various locations throughout the plant.

In conjunction with ROBUS State Manager for Queensland, Neil Jones, a suitable lighting plan was developed and payback calculations provided.

Installation was straight forward with each lamp pre wired for local supply voltage.

The advantages of this lamp over other technology for Wesley Linen Service is that there is an extensive operating life with little drop off in light intensity over the life of the lamp.

This translates to consistent light output exceeding Australian Standards for processing work and considerable savings with no re-lamping required for a long period. Labour savings are also expected as a result of minimal maintenance activity.

Energy Saving

With a saving of 200W per fitting this qwuates to a toral of 28,955 kWhrs per year for the entire installation in the linen processing plant.

Total $ savings per year will be $7,055 with an installation payback of just over 1 year and C02 savings of 16 tonnes/year.

Background
To provide long term lighting solutions which require little or no maintenance

Centro Galleria, a large shopping centre in Morely, Western Australia replaced standard light fittings with long term energy saving lighting solutions from Robus, reducing both energy and maintenance costs.

To that end, in the main shopping area, seven ROBUS 14W IP44 Downlights were installed underneath the centre’s escalators that provided an 80% energy saving compared to the low voltage Halogen Downlights that were previously installed. To ensure energy would not be wasted in service areas where lights were being left on all the time, 20 ROBUS Universal 360° PIRs were placed in store rooms and air conditioning plant rooms. 14 2 x 24W ROBUS Vulcan Corrosion Proof fittings were placed in the chiller deck and in the parking garage to replace the previous T5 & T8 fluorescent fittings, generating a further 42% energy saving compared to the standard fluorescent fittings. In the exterior car park, 20 ROBUS 80W LED Floodlights were used to replace 150W Metal Halide fittings providing a 45% reduction in energy costs.

Because these LED light fittings have average lamp lives of between 30,000 and 50,000 hours, maintenance costs of the shopping centre are also significantly reduced.

Energy Saving Case Study 3: Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort, NSW

Background
Replace traditional Halogen light fittings with modern energy saving LED fittings. 423 ROBUS 10W LED Downlights were to be installed in the foyer, restaraunt & bar areas.

With soaring energy costs and a need to reduce spending, Yarrawonga Golf Club and Resort needed to lower their expenditure and the first step was a complete halogen retrofit. The decision was taken to replace all 423 x 35W and 50W Halogen Fittings with the ROBUS 10W LEDChroic due to its proven performance, reliability and cost saving.

The ROBUS 10W LEDChroic has a 50,000 hour lamp life and lasts 20 times longer than the Halogen fittings which resulted in a 79% reduction in power consumption and an annual saving of over $45,000 in energy costs, lamp replacements costs and air conditioning compensation. Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort’s investment to install the ROBUS LED Downlight in the foyer, restaurant and bar was paid back within two months.

Energy Saving Case Study 4: Tata Steel Works, Port Talbot, Wales

Background
16 Panels installed in a 4x4 set up application Inspection Area. Tata Steel is a steel works in Port Talbot and the ROBUS Panel lights were installed in an area where cold steel is inspected. The LED Panels were chosen because they offer a signifi cant reduction in maintenance costs and time replacing lamps.

They also provide a better environment to assist with product inspection due to uniformity of light output. 16 Panels were installed in a 4 x 4 set up application - replacing 4 x 18W T8 Recessed Modular fittings.


Prior to the installation of the Panel lights, a lamp change in a modular fitting would involve shutting the inspection area down for a full day - at a significant cost and inconvenience to the plant.


The LED Panels have a 50,000 hour average lamp life - eliminating the inconvenience and cost of frequent lamp changes, while continuing to provide the high light output that is essential to the inspection of the steel produced.

Energy Saving Case Study 5: University of Salford, Manchester, England

Background
32 Panels installed at the university reception. The University of Salford prides itself on having a tradition of innovative thinking and commercial success - as well as being environmentally responsible. Their Energy Manager demonstrated these traits by choosing the ROBUS LED Panel light when the reception area of the university was recently refurbished.


The Panel was chosen for the clean-line aesthetics it gives to the building, the low heat output it produces and the re-lamping cost savings it offers.


32 Panel lights were installed (a mixture of standard and emergency) replacing 37 existing 4 x 18W T8 Recessed modular fittings. Any initial scepticism prior to installing an LED option was dispelled by the fact that five less Panels were required than previously installed to provide the same lighting level.

Energy Saving Case Study 6: Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, England

Background
Anglia Ruskin University is based on 2 main campuses, one in the centre of Cambridge and one in Chelmsford - both offering students a state-ofthe-art learning environment.


The Cambridge campus is undergoing a programme of redevelopment to create an inspiring, flexible, yet sustainable environment. One of the redevelopment projects was the refurbishment of the Mumford Library.


The ROBUS Panel had been used in the refurbishment of one the Chelmsford campus buildings, so it was a natural choice for them to install the same fi ttings throughout the library.


A reduction in the library's maintenance costs as well as installing lighting that fulfils the university's sustainable environment policy were two key deciding factors when choosing the ROBUS Panel.

240 Panels were installed in the library, classrooms, office and the cafeteria replacing 4 x 18W recessed modular fittings.

Energy-saving Case Study 7: Warwickshire College, Rugby, England

Background
36 panels installed on the stairwell. Warwickshire College has achieved signifcant improvements in their resource efficiencies by implementing a comprehensive range of energy saving initiatives. Installing high efficiency lighting was a key focus when building their new Rugby centre.

They were also faced with an installation problem when it came to lighting the stairwell. The stairwell is a metal frame construction with limited options regarding installation of conventional light fittings. The decision to use the ROBUS Panel as a wall mounted fitting provided a solution to this installation problem.


36 standard and emergency panels were installed throughout the stairway. The ROBUS Panels have a low heat output allowing them to be wall mounted and are also safe to touch, therefore no height restrictions apply.

Energy Saving Case Study 8: Harvey's Furniture Stores, UK

 

40 branches have now each installed 12 Panels, replacing T8 Modular fittings. This has resulted in no more expensive lamp changes and an energy reduction of 50%.

 

Background
Harveys is the UK's largest furniture specialist with locations throughout the UK. When upgrading their stores, they were looking for lighting that would reduce the lighting load but still maintain an acceptable light level. Many of the showrooms have a ceiling height of over 7m, so they also needed a low maintenance lighting solution. The ROBUS Panel was the "Fit and Forget" solution they were looking for. 480 Panels were installed throughout the UK Showrooms.

Energy Saving Case Study 9: College Ystrad Mynach, Wales

Background
The College Ystrad Mynach was originally opened in 1959 to meet the needs of the local coal mining industry, but the college has seen dramatic changes in recent years with a full modernisation of the campus buildings.

The ROBUS Panel light was chosen to be installed in the newly built College of Further Education as they were looking to introduce new LED technology that allows energy savings and reduces C02 emissions.

Reduced maintenance and no lamp changes were also very important as maintenance can only be completed when the areas are empty of students and staff.

The Panels are located in the college's office where they provide a natural light with little heat output.

30 Panels installed installed in corridors, meeting rooms and offices

30 panels were used to replace 35 PL Downlights (2 x 26W) on PIR switching. The life of the LEDs in the Panel is not reduced when used with PIRs, resulting in reduced energy consumption and reduced maintenance costs.

The low glare diffuser alleviates eye strain providing a comfortable working environment. The Panel also comes with easy to fit male/female connectors - meaning the retrofit was completed quickly with minimum disruption to staff.

The ROBUS Retrofit solution:
The 20W T8 LED tube was selected to replace 360 x T8 fluorescent tubes in 90 locations throughout the university.
—  The 20W LED tube was chosen due to its long life, high light output and its
      wide beam angle. NUI instantly saw their energy consumption drop by X %
—  Replacing T8 fluorescent tubes with the LED version has resulted in a
      significant reduction in maintenance costs and time replacing lamps.
—  The additional benefit of less heat output has resulted in a more comfortable
      working environment while also reducing air conditioning costs.
